		GLOCKENCORD
		~~~~~~~~~~~
	       version 1.1.2
		~~~~~~~~~~~
		Readme file
		~~~~~~~~~~~
Please note: versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 are functionally identical to version
1.1, and version 1.1 GCR files are still used.
Installation
------------
Once you've unzipped the various glockencord files, please copy the file
Glockencord.nds to the SD card you use in your DS in a location that suits
you (eg: /Games/Glockencord.nds). The files musicrolls.ini and all the
files ending ".gcr" need to be copied to the folder /DATA/glockencord on
the SD card. The readme, documentation and examples folder can be kept on
your PC or copied to the SD card for your perusal.
Starting Glockencord
--------------------
Tap on the Glockencord program on your DS in the usual way to start it.
Using Glockencord
-----------------
All interactions with the program are via the touch-screen. With the
exception of the volume control, the buttons of the DS are not required.
Manual mode
-----------
Once started, Glockencord will provide you with a keyboard on the touch
screen and the chimes on the upper screen: This is "Manual mode". Tap on
the keys to play the corresponding notes. You can also slide the stylus
around the keyboard to play different notes in quick succession (glissando).
Because you can only tap the screen in one place at a time, manual mode
is "monophonic" (you cannot play chords).
Mode switching
--------------
There is a switch on the lower part of the touch screen labelled
"MAN/AUTO". Tapping on this switch takes you from "Manual mode" (see above)
to "Automatic mode" (see below) or vice-versa.
Automatic mode
--------------
On entering Automatic mode, you will be presented with a list of titles.
Each title relates to a "Piano roll". In real life, a Piano roll is a roll
of paper with holes punched in it (each hole triggers the playing of a note
when it passes over the appropriate mechanism). In DS life, it's a
simulation of the same thing. Click on the title you want to play, and the
roll will be loaded and ready to play.
Clicking on the "Go/Stop" switch will start the roll playing. If you want
to pause the music, click on the switch again.
At any point, you can click on the Load button to load a different roll, or
on the MAN/AUTO switch to return to manual mode.
One major difference between Manual and Automatic modes is that Automatic
mode can play polyphonic pieces rather than just allowing one note to be
played at a time.
There are a variety of rolls supplied with Glockencord which you can play.
You can also write your own: Details are provided in the documentation (see
below).
Documentation
-------------
All documentation (including this read-me file) are provided in plain text
format so that they can be read on your DS. The documentation is as follows:
ReadMe.txt:		This file.
CreatingRolls.txt:	A guide to creating your own piano rolls.
Errors.txt:		A list of error messages and what they mean.
Endword
-------
Thanks for downloading and using this software. Although it's provided
totally without warranty or assurance of fitness for use, it should be
perfectly ok. I would appreciate feedback via email (not that I can promise
to fix any specific problems). If you want to be notified when new versions
of Glockencord become available, please send me an email with the subject
set to "Glockencord".
