With fans clamoring for a new game for years, Game Arts finally answered them. Unfortunately, the final product was not wholly favourably received. In any case, there is a lot of stuff to be documented in the game, so here is the culmination of my work on it, which should contribute to the overall completeness of game documentation. ~Darkstar Ripclaw -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1a. Retrieve that Package! RTTPC =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Port Searis -=-=-=-=-=- Watch intro, scroll through Jian's opening soliliquoy. Leave the room and go down the stairs at the southwest corner of the hallway, and then talk to Cherenkov, the innkeeper, at the front counter. Once done that, exit the Inn out onto the Port Searis map, and head over to Jack's House. Inside, talk to Jack, and he'll reveal your next destination. Exit his house, and head to Fountain Square. Here, head over and examine the parasol, and watch the next cutscene. After, exit out back to the map again. Head over to the Gad's Express, and in here, talk to Gad at the front counter. Take the 'To Gad's Express' job, and leave the building. Head over to the Weapon Shop. At this point in time, I recommend you getting Sneakers, as it'll make the next part infinitely easier. After, exit the store, and choose Leave Town to exit to the overworld. On the overworld, go to Thieves' Wood. Thieves' Wood -=-=-=-=-=-=- In the first room, head along the dirt road until you see a slope to your right side, and go up. Continue on left and open the chest for a HEALING GUM, then go down back onto the road. Cross the bridge, and you'll get ambushed by a number of Yetis who steal your package, which means we'll have to temporarily redivert our path. With that, continue on the dirt road to the end, and then head up the slope onto another road. Continue up to the top 'til you reach a fork in the road, and then head left. Go along a ways on the next screen and talk to the two guys here, then backtrack to the fork on the previous area. Head right. Just before the wooden pegs that signify the exit to this area, head down and then right through the trees to find a chest. Open it for a HEALING GUM. Defeat all enemies in this first room, and then return to the entrance. Head up the dirt road a bit, then head left through the forest and find a blue chest. Open it for some CLOGS. With that done, go back to the fork in the road, and head right to get into the next room. Coming into room two, follow the dirt road for the longest of times, ignoring even the slope that goes downhill. Instead, wait until you finally get to the uphill slope, and go up there. Head right, ignoring the log-connected islands and any large expanse to the north, and instead continue the road. When it finally breaks, continue on down south to the cliff face, and open a wooden box for a HEALING GUM. Now go back and slay all the monsters in the area, and go to the log-connected islands. Open the blue chest for a WONDER UMBRELLA. Get back onto the road, and head left. Continue along and go up to the northwest exit, and out onto the overworld. Head to Perit Village. Perit Village -=-=-=-=-=-=- Here, go to Enos' house right away, and once inside, head up to the second floor. Talk to the village chief Enos, and he'll reveal that the Sasquatch at Delrich Temple is behind the theft. Enos will also point out that the rocks blocking the path to Delrich Temple have been removed, so our next destination is now set. Leave Enos' House, go and examine the Althena Statue in the Well Area if you need to, then go to the overworld. Head to Thieves' Wood. Thieves' Wood -=-=-=-=-=-=- Back in Thieves' Wood, go through the entirety of room two back into the front end of the forest. From the room one-room two entrance, head left along the dirt road, and when you get to the fork once more, continue onwards left, up 'til you hit the exit. Go through into a monster-free zone, and use the Althena Statue if you have to. Head up to the northwest exit where the rocks previously were, and head into the next room. In here, head along the road until you come to a spot just before you head into a large expanse of dirt with a log. Here, head right and go through the trees, and at the end, head up the slope onto the cliff. Open the chest to the northwest for 100S, then head back onto the road. To find the exit, go back onto the dirt road and continue left, choosing either side of the fork, and when the paths reconnect, head northwest to the exit. However, kill all the monsters in this area first, and open up the Blue Chest that was lying next to the road about 1/4 in for a Lucky Bandana. Afterwards, exit out onto the world map, and go to Delrich Temple. Delrich Temple -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Start off by healing up at the Althena Statue, then go up the three long sets of staircases to the top. Examine the Dragon statues, and they'll give you hints as to what order of colors you need to look at, which will come in use later. For those who don't really want to bother solving it, the correct order would be Red - White - Black - Blue. Enter. Inside, go east and down the three sets of staircases, and then head east some more until you come to an exit. Continue on to reach the monster-infested areas. In here, head down the staircase, and then walk southeast down the hallway until you get to the end, and then head up the second staircase. Go in a general right direction, and keep reference of the patch of area right above you as where the Blue Chest will be. Go down the staircase, then head down-left, and take the left path when you come to a split between left and right down a staircase. Open the chest at the end for a HEALING GUM and then continue on down the stairs. Go up along the hallway until you come to a staircase, and then go up to find the exit. Should you slay all the enemies in the room and open the Blue Chest, you'll obtain a MENTAL BANDANA. Now exit out this room into the next. Keep reference of the door straight to the northeast when you come in, but don't go in. Instead, head down through the doorframe southeast, and then head down southwest along the hallway. Go into the door with the red stone above it, and inside, go down and examine the Red Dragon Statue. Head back out, go up a bit, then go inside the white stone door. Here, go along and examine the White Dragon Statue. Now exit, and head up the hallway to the northeast end. Go inside this door, walk to the end, and examine the Black Dragon Statue. Exit. Back out here, go down southwest, and you should see some staircases. Head down them, and then run up northeast once more to find another door. Go inside, and open the chest for a MAGIC RING. Use the Althena Statue if you have to, then go southeast along the hallway in here. Examine the Blue Dragon Statue, and it'll set off a mechanism elsewhere. Exit the closest door. Now, even if you want to fight monsters, I must note, there IS NO BLUE CHEST HERE. If you do not wish to bother fighting anymore, head down in a southwest direction to the opposite end into a new room. Now that you're here, go around and go right up the staircase. Step into the portal, and it'll teleport you into a new room. Once again, there's no blue chest, so if you don't want to, don't fight. Save first, and then take the northeast end. Examine the grave to slide it over, and then head through the door. Inside, fight the Sasquatch, which is basically an upgrade on the Yeti, and his two Yeti accomplices. -=-=-=-=- SASQUATCH =-=-=-=-= Prize(s): Healing Drop, Sasquatch At this point in the game, you won't really have anything at all to diversify your attack pool, so just put the combat on automatic, and cancel auto mode whenever you need Lucia to heal. Eventually, all three enemies will fall. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Exit the room and head down to the southwest end. Check the two unbroken graves and they'll slide away, revealing two BONE SWORDs. Head through the door, and you'll face off against another Sasquatch, this time with two Shreekers. One victory later, head back outside and go to the center of the room. If you ever need to, go back to the Althena Statue to revitalize your HP and MP, but otherwise, go to the northwest end next. No graves are moveable here, so go through the door straight away, and fight the Sasquatch, whom is this time accompanied by a Sturge and Blob. COLLECTORS: No doubt you've realized what to do by now. But if you're one of those people who needs to collect everything, be warned: once you fight the Sasquatches here, if you don't get the Sasquatch card off of one of them, you will NEVER find it. So, when you go southeast and just before you head through that door, if you don't have the Sasquatch Card yet, save. In any case, the Sasquatch will be accompanied by two Ticks this time. Afterwards, however, there'll be a severe lack of the Package. Backtrack your way to the room that had the four Dragon Statue doors, and go to the entrance of that room. Head through the door that was seemingly useless before, and in here, go up onto the pedestal to retrieve the package. Now that that's done, leave by use of Lucia's Escape Magic, and exit Delrich Temple. Backtrack to Perit Village. Perit Village -=-=-=-=-=-=- Back at the ranch, head off to Enos' House, go to the second floor, and talk to Enos once more. He'll thank you for your help, mention that the bridge to the town of Healriz has been fixed, and gives you 100S. Afterwards, exit Enos' House, and go over to the local Gad's Express. Talk to the person at the counter to finish the job that we've been trying to do for the last chapter, then do whatever you want to do around town and Port Searis (delivering packages, leveling up, getting new equipment, etc.) before heading off to our next storyline destination. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1b. To Healriz TOHRZ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Thieves' Wood -=-=-=-=-=-=- Go to the monster-free zone with the Statue of Althena, and the bridge will have been fixed. Head along the bridge into the next area. In this room, go along the dirt road until you're heading mainly straight down and you're in a large expanse of dirt, and go left, weaving in between the trees. Continue on left and up to note the location of the Blue Chest that is here, then head back and go down and pursue the left side at the fork. When you come to a bridge, don't go just yet; instead, go down to the southeast across a log onto a small island, and open the chest for a HEALING GUM. Head back across the log and go across the bridge. Here, you'll find the exit. Now, if you want to, slay all the enemies in here in Virtue Mode and claim a STRONG UMBRELLA from the Blue Chest before leaving, but otherwise, exit the room and the area altogether onto the world map. Enter Healriz from there. Healriz -=-=-=- Start off by going to Titus' house and talking to Titus inside. Once you are finished your small chitchat, swing over to Balbo's House, and go talk to Evelina on the second floor. After that, exit the house and head over to Leoncavallo's house. Talk to both Leoncavallo and Marcella, then exit. Head over to the Western side of town, then go to San Coliseum. In here, talk to Luria at the front counter, then exit and head to the restaurant. Talk to Lucrezia, the blue-haired girl at the left, and then exit. Go to the Inn. Talk to the Innkeeper, and then talk to the human to the right, Aaron. Once he's done, exit, and head back to the Eastern side of town. Here, go into Leoncavallo's house and talk to Marcella, and she will tell you that you'll need some Honey from Roland Forest (I wouldn't mind the catfight, but, oh well). With that in mind, go to Victoria Square to use the Althena statue, then head back to the western side of town. Exit Healriz from there onto the overworld, and then head into Roland Forest. Roland Forest -=-=-=-=-=-=- Because we have to come back here soon anyways and go through the forest, with no fighting in between, there's no point in journeying your way through the entire forest now. If you must, read ahead to the next Roland Forest blip. Otherwise, however, switch into Combat Mode until you finally encounter an Insector, and after you win, you'll more than likely obtain Honey (one is satisfactory) (you might get a Poisoner instead, but the Poisoner is it's rare drop). It might also be fair warning at this point in time to mention that some of the enemies may be tough, depending on your current level and equipment. After, exit back out and head off to Healriz once more. Healriz -=-=-=- Head off to Leoncavallo's House, and talk to the master of the house once more. When he asks for the honey, give it to him. Talk to him again once you are done, and after a long and drawn-out conversation, you have your next destination set. Head outside, use the Althena Statue at Victoria Square should you need it, and head to Roland Forest from the West side of Healriz. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1c. Fighting in the Coliseum FGNCL =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Roland Forest -=-=-=-=-=-=- No worries for the main part of Roland Forest, as there isn't a Blue Chest in the first part of the area. Start off by making your way down south, using the pale green grass as a mark for the path, until you get to a large slope. Go down here, and at the bottom, stay within the green and continue on left. There'll eventually be a break in the pale green grass, but you should see a dirt path up ahead to the northwest; take it and follow it northwest until you come to two rocks surrounded by some trees. From this landmark, head up straight north, and then go across the log. Head across the second log up a bit, and then enter the cave. Inside the cave, head up the northwest until you come to a split in the path; take the northeast direction going up, and go through what is a fairly linear and eventless walk until you come to the end, and open the chest for a HEALING GUM. Make your way back to the split in the road, and this time go down southwest. You should soon come to a second split in the road. For reference, the southwest path will lead to the Blue Chest, but ignore that for now; instead, head on and go up the northeast path. You'll finally come to one last split; this time, take the left path (the right path leads to a useless dead end). Travel up a sufficient enough way, and finally, you shall fae off against the Armored Boar. -=-=-=-=-=-= ARMORED BOAR =-=-=-=-=-=- Prize(s): Counter Type 1, Armored Boar Currently, you won't have an armada of cards that can prove completely useful to you. Nevertheless, you should have one that will be useful; the Insector card. Have Lucia use it while Jian flat-out attacks and does nothing else, while keeping Lucia to the side as a healer; even if you don't think it's an emergency, you should still heal. This is because the Armored Boar can cause confusion to you, and doing so will cause your character to randomly not do an attack; perfect timing for the Boar to sneak in a critical hit or something along those lines. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Before you leave the cave and Roland Forest as a whole, if you want, kill all the monsters in the cave and open the chest for a PROTECTION RING. Once done, use Lucia's Escape Magic and leave Roland Forest from there. Head back to Healriz. Healriz -=-=-=- Head off to Leoncavallo's house, and talk to Leoncavallo. After your conversation, you'll get a PASS. Before heading off to San Coliseum, go to the Item Shop and pick up a few Antidotes, and a lot of Healing Drops. You'll need them for when you go to San Coliseum. After the fact, talk to Luria at the front table, and enter. Some chatting later, you'll get into your first fight. -=-= RAFT =-=- Prize(s): Healing Drop x2, Raft Your first of three fights should be a rather reasonably easy fight. Besides his regular attack, the only other thing that Raft is capable of is casting a light healing spell on himself, which, if you have your best possible current equipment on right now, only heals half the damage that you inflict on him in a trio of hits. As such, you'll probably want to keep things going easy here and put the Combat on Automatic, but keep an eye on your HP; if it gets below 40, cancel Automatic mode and use a Healing Drop on yourself. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Talk, another boss fight. -=-=-= SHARIF =-=-=- Prize(s): Healing Drop x2, Sharif Coming into this fight, use the Namia card to keep your HP up; if you're at a fairly decent level (10 or so) and with good equipment, you can basically nullify any damage Sharif does to you. Not only that, but because of a low accuracy rate he holds, you may even get more bang for your buck than what you might initially expect. With that said, Sharif DOES have a secondary attack in the form of a fireball that he uses from time to time, but other than it being slightly more powerful than his regular attack, there isn't really anything else to mention in fighting him. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= More talk, and you'll face off the last boss. -=-=- MORAN =-=-= Prize(s): Mental Drop x2, Moran This is the real fight to be here for. If you're not at a low point in HP from the last fight (in which case if you are, use a Healing Drop ASAP), then use a Namia-Insector card combo, and flat-out attack Moran. Once this is done, end the fight QUICKLY! Moran has a deadly two-prong attack in the form of his tail swipe being able to both poison. While the poison can easily be quickly offset by the Namia card constantly healing you, it's the equipment you don't want to get broken; therefore, the quicker you kill Moran, the lesser of a chance it'll have to destroy your equipment. Besides, after this fight, you'll be able to heal up, so there's no point in healing yourself after the initial part if you can hang in there for a few more turns. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Afterwards, you'll have a long conversation, after which you'll get a new party member, Gabryel. For a while now, Jian will also be unable to perform his triple-attack; he can only kick once per attack from now on until a point later on in the future. Once done, head off to Port Searis through Thieves' Wood. Port Searis -=-=-=-=-=- Back here, head off to the Pier. Go and talk to Hyman, and take the ferry to Shell Pier, in Port Olbeage. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1d. The Cathedral of Althena CTOAL =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Port Olbeage -=-=-=-=-=-= Your first stop after running into town from the Pier should be to head to Carducci's House. Talk to Carducci here, and fulfill his request by exiting and heading to the Checkpoint. Here, talk to the guard standing in the middle of the room, as well as to the two guards to the side, and then exit and return to Carducci's House. Talk to Carducci once more, and after a drawn-out scene, you'll be asked to go to the Cathedral of Althena, and you'll be able to exit the Port. Once out on the world map, go to the Cathedral of Althena, and in the Cathedral of Althena submap, go into the actual Cathedral. Cathedral of Althena -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Before I give out any directions, I am taking the 'fair-game' approach and believe that I should mention that once you finish this dungeon, that's it. The monsters here will not appear here anymore, so if you want to get anything from here soon, you better do it right now. Nevertheless, there are no exclusive items or monsters to Cathedral of Althena, so don't worry too much. In any case, from the get-go, go through the first room, which is free from monster infestation. Inside the main hallway, head forth along the floor, ignoring the first set of doors on either side of you. For the second set of doors, however, go down to the southeast. Inside here, go and open a chest in the far east corner to get an AMETHYST. Exit the room, then head to the room opposite from here. Inside is a Statue of Althena that you can (and will have to) use, and a chest with an AURA. Exit the room, go outside, and continue onwards up the stairs. Go and examine the statue. Once the statue's been gleaned over, head down southeast again, and go up the staircase at the end. Continue on in a straightforward southeast direction, but save before you enter the door. Once inside, you'll face off against a Deuce. -=-=- DEUCE =-=-= Prize(s): (Varies)___ Orb, Deuce, Mental Drop Any two of the useful quartret of cards for boss fights that you likely have by now (Duager, Insector, Namia, Shreeker) should be put down for use against all of the Deuces you'll fight, as depending on how good your current equipment is, you may need an advantage over him. Lucia's Grand Weapon and Grand Shell can also be useful for respectively hurting Deuce more and reducing the damage of his attacks. Aside from that, the Deuce can be an annoying little bugger. From time to time, he'll attack twice in a turn (two hits in one attack), and his attacks can both confuse and send you to sleep, both of which will delay your own attacks. As such, don't be afraid to use Lucia's Cure Squall and healing to nullify any status ailments and heal your when your HP gets low. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After this first fight, you'll get a RED ORB for your troubles. Head downstairs if you still have sufficient HP and MP (otherwise, go to the Statue of Althena first and heal up), and you'll fight another Deuce. This time around, you'll obtain the WHITE ORB. Now that you're done here, exit out and go back to the main hall. This time, go to the door northwest of the statue (remembering to drop off at the Althena State first if you need to), heading up the stairs first. Inside, you'll take on another Deuce. Once done, you'll get a BLACK ORB. Head downstairs, and take on the last Deuce, winning a BLUE ORB in the process. Exit outside, and head to the large Statue of Althena in the main hall. Examine it four times to insert the four orbs, then go along the hallway, entering the door at the end. SAVE BEFORE ENTERING. Inside, you'll face off against Gronk. -=-=- GRONK =-=-= Prize(s): Counter Type 2, Gronk Aside from his somewhat hurtful regular attacks, Gronk has a more devastating attack if you fail to keep up with him; he can petrify your characters, keeping them from moving for awhile. As such, equip the Amethyst you got only just a while back onto Lucia to keep her from being petrified, and use her Cure Squall whenever the need arises. Gronk is also able to heal himself from time to time, but if he's poisoned, it won't work for him. With pre-battle preparations done, there are about five good cards to use in this battle; the obvious Namia-Insector-Shreeker trio (Shreeker will be especially useful this time around, as Gronk takes a lot to go down), and additionally, Comet and Enigma. Comet will raise your own Intelligence, allowing your Specials to have more power behind them (Lucia's healing attacks, or Gabryel's Gale Cut), while Enigma will drop Gronk's own Intelligence, cutting down the force behind his powers. And, eventually, you'll be able to prevail over him. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After you've defeated Gronk, f'ing HEAL JIAN. Once you've done that, go up to the staircase, and then watch the scene. Zethos Castle -=-=-=-=-=-=- You'll end up fighting another boss, singlehandedly. -=-=-= ZETHOS =-=-=- Prize(s): Lucky Ring, Zethos Let's be clear; this battle can be won in a matter of turns, if you know what to do. Zethos isn't too hard of a fighter in this battle, and if you've healed up beforehand like I said for you to do, his attack (which consists of three axe thrusts in a row before backing off) will never do much harm to you (particularly as many of his attacks more than likely will partially or totally miss). The first step for you to take is to use the Shreeker card on Zethos, which will ensure that he loses sufficient enough HP per turn. Next, use an Insector card, and once that is done, start attacking Zethos. Zethos will soon use an attack that consists of a blue orb of energy. When this is done, the Curse of Lost Equilibrium will have been broken, and Jian will be able to attack thrice in a single turn, so continue pounding at Zethos, only stopping to heal if you absolutely must. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After you've won, watch the scene, where lots of background information gets revealed. Once you're thrust out onto the castle town map, reenter Zethos Castle, and inside, go along the long hallway until you get to the throne room. Talk to Zethos once more, and he'll tell you to cross Sungrid Bridge. Exit again, head out to the Castle Town, and here, go to Pisano Square. Once reunited with Gabryel, exit this area altogether (unless you want to get some ____ Rings from Janus at his house). You can go back to Port Olbeage now by going through the Cathedral of Althena and exiting the other way, or you can now go to Sungrid Bridge. I recommend going to Olbeage first, as you will want to get lots of money for later on after crossing Sungrid Bridge, and with the Olbeage square's merchants, you can make money now. On another side note, don't be buying ANY equipment for now unless it's a Ring. Sungrid Bridge -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Head through the first mini-hallway, guaranteed to be monster-free, then exit out into the maelstrom that is Sungrid Bridge. Outside, your first step will be to walk down southwest and go up the ladder, then head in a southwesterly direction again once on the roof and go down a second ladder. You should see a door right at the base of the ladder; continue on southwest a wee bit, flip the lever in the middle of the room by examining it with A, then go back and enter the door. Inside, go and open the chest for a HOLY BRACELET, then head back outside. Back outside, head southwest in a fairly straightforward path, going down one staircase, until you make it offscreen to the next area. In here, head down and right to the one side of the building, and climb up another ladder. Head down-left and then scoot over to the right, going down one more ladder at the end. Walk along the upper part of this large section here, and you should see the Blue Chest. Reference it's location in mind for later, then procede down and right, climibing up another ladder to the top. Head around the first roof clockwise, and, ignoring the ladder going down that is to your right, head up the ladder to your left. Head along and start your way down one last ladder, and at the bottom lies the exit to the next screen. Defeat all the enemies in the area before heading on, and open the Blue Chest for a BARRIER RING, then leave onto the next area. From the start, head down southwest once more along the crossway, and continue through the square of four barrel-shaped pods and go down a staircase. Start curving in a northwest direction when you're prompted to, and head up another staircase. Up here, head up to the tower in the northern-most corner and climb the ladder to the top. Open the chest for a HEALING GUM, then head back down and southwest again. Down the staircase is the exit, BUT. Backtrack to the opening square of this area, and flip the lever in the southwest corner. Head forward to the tower with a high ladder again, and enter the newly opened door. Inside, open a lever. Back outside, backtrack once more to the last lever, and head down-right to the side, and head down the ladder. See the Blue Chest to your right for later use, then head left. Go into the door at the base of the bridge foundation here, and inside, open the chests for a RAINBOW TIARA and a GODDESS ROBE. Head outside. Now, kill all the monsters in the area in Virtue Mode, then open the Blue Chest for a HOLY UMBRELLA. Exit to the southwest portion of this room of Sungrid Bridge. Now, I'll make my point clear. DEEQUIP ALL OF LUCIA'S EQUIPMENT DOWN TO HER BASE EQUIPMENT. This means Umbrella, Shiny Tiara, Ring, etc. With that done, go down, right, down and left from the entrance, and watch a long scene. You'll end up in Lind Village afterwards, and obtain an IGNATIC STONE. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1e. Crossing the Frontier CRTFR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Lind Village -=-=-=-=-=-= Before going into the shaft, head right and up and examine the Althena Statue to recover fully. Now go back and into the mine shaft. In here, go down- left the first tunnel, then head down-right all the way along the abandoned railway into the next room. In here, just simply head into the southwest door to exit out to the Lind Village overmap. Don't bother going to the General Store, as all you can do is sell items there. You may want to make a pit stop to the Item Store and pick up a bunch of Healing Gums and Healing Drops, as the only Statue of Althena for the next long stretch of the game is in the underground shaft you just came from. You will, however, DEFINITELY want to make the Weapon and Armor shops a stop on your way out (if you run out of money, sell Lucia's old equipment). Once outside, head back to Sungrid Bridge. Sungrid Bridge -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Although you won't be able to admittedly cross back over Sungrid Bridge, you can flip the lever that is at this end of the bridge now. It'll serve a purpose later, so don't worry. Exit out and go to Guystole Mine. Guystole Mine -=-=-=-=-=-=- Two notes to make before we head off: the first is that you may want to alternate between some fighting at the Guystole Mine and heading back to the Althena Statue back in Lind Village to level up Flora a bit. The second is a more personal note; bring up a consultation between the three once you get in, and they'll have what is personally one of my most favorite conversations in the game. Anywho, walk straight down from the start, and ignore the path going up to the left - it's completely useless. Instead, continue on, and when you hit the pit at the end and a fork, go down to the right. Head down-left immediately when you can and do a counterclockwise loop of this area, killing any monsters around. Once you're about done your rotation, go down the stairs at the top and open the chest in the middle for a TOPAZ, then head back out. Go back to the fork, and go left along the small bridge plank. Ignore your first stop while walking in a counterlockwise direction, and instead head to the end to see the exit to this chamber. However, if you want, kill all the monsters in this room and go to the northern corner of this bridge to find a Blue Chest. Inside should be a PANTHER GAUNTLET. With that, head back onto the plank, go down once more, and exit out to the next room. In here, go up and head right at the fork. Take note of the Blue Chest here for later, then head back and start heading left down the stone staircase. Head down to the far right and at the end, go up the staircase. Open the chest for a HEALING DROP, then go back down and down another staircase to the bottom section. Head up the two staircases opposite the first lowest staircase. Now scale around counterclockwise and head down-left into a new area. Here, go down and then head right across the bridge. On the other side, head right, and go across another bridge. Continue on right, and you'll come to another split. Head right and down to find the exit. However, before going through, if you want, clear out all the enemies in the area and open the Blue Chest at the beginning of this room for a GUARDIAN RING. After that, head out into the next room. Coming in, go up north along the hallway, and once you make it out into big open space, head up the first staircases you see, then head left up another staircase for a TOURMALINE. Head back down the two staircases, then start going right and up along a new path. Curve around clockwise until you come to another fork in the roads. Head north from here to open a chest for 10000S, then head south past the three-way split. Ignore the bridge that you'll see, and instead continue down until you see a plateau with the Blue Chest on it. From here, pursue the right-down direction, then head straight down from there. You will find the exit here. Now, should you want, before exiting the Guystole Mine, kill all the enemies in this room and open the Blue Chest for a PLATINUM WRISTBAND. After that, exit, and head out to Sandra Desert. Sandra Desert -=-=-=-=-=-=- The first area of the desert is fairly straightforward. From your entrance, head straight right until you see some stairs carved out in the sand cliffs below you, and then go and head down them. Below, you'll see that there's a naturally ingrained path on the desert floor. By following this path, you move much faster than the very slow pace that you would be accomodated to on the sand. Take this path in a counterclockwise loop, making note of the Blue Chest that you will see, and at the end of it all will be the exit to the next room. Should you decide to do so, kill all the monsters in this room and open the Blue Chest for an ANGEL'S TEARS. From the start of the next room, head down along the fine path until you get to sandy terrain, then head in a general south (slightly west) direction until you find some staircases. Head up and go around the cliff to find a chest with a MENTAL GUM inside. Drop off by going onto the sand waterfall, then head slightly down and then go right, keeping your eyes on the cliffs. You should see another chest partly obscured by the cliffs. Open it for a HEALING DROP, then head left in an almost completely straightforward direction until you come to one exit. Go in. In here, it's a relatively small room with no blue chest, but because it isn't monster free, it will have a higher monster density. With that warning out of the way, head far left and open the chest for 5963S, then head back right and exit back out into the previous room. In here, go right until you find the chest partly hidden by the cliffs, then continue straight right and then in a down- right direction when you have to. Alternatively, if you want to, kill all the enemies in the room and head north and a slight bit right from the hidden chest to find the Blue Chest. It'll contain a DARK BOOTS. Coming in, head straight right and then go up a staircase when you see it. Start heading back left on the upper floor, going up another staircase, and then taking an exit that goes back to the previous room. In here, head left along the cliff face, ignoring any sand waterfalls, and continue on up and left until you come to an exit back to the first room. Use it, and procede north. Head around the sand waterfall to open a chest for a STARDUST RING, then head back all the way to Room 4. Repeat this same step again, but only go back one room; head down the sand waterfall, open the chest below for a PROTECTIVE BANDANA, head down another sand waterfall, then head back to Room 4. Now that our side quest of item-collecting is done, down to business. Head right to the staircase, and then make a sharp turn south to find a chest that will hold a HEALING DROP. Now go back north a bit, then head right a long ways until you finally come to an exit. Go inside to the next room, and watch a scene. After, you'll be spit out onto the world map. Head to Elda Canyon. Elda Canyon -=-=-=-=-=- You will probably prefer to skip any treasure-hunting and fighting for the first bit when you first enter Elda Canyon, and head directly to the boss fight in the second room, THEN come back here. Believe me, it'll make your life exponentially easier. And for a reference, the geysers in Elda Canyon will temporarily make you confused, so that pressing up makes you go down, left will make you go right, and vice versa. It'll wear off after a while. In any case, head down-right and then go up to find a rock ladder in the stone wall. Continue right, go up the staircase, take a note of the Blue Chest, then head down until you come to another staircase. From here, head right along the cliff face some more, and when you get to a bigger area, head north and open the chest for a MENTAL GUM. From the chest, go down a bit and down a staircase. From here, it's a crossroads. For reference, all you have to do to go to the EXIT now is to go down and down-right. Take the down-left direction, however, then go up-left 'til you see a ladder carved into the stone wall that you're walking on. Climb down, then head left, and go down another ladder. Head right down here, and climb down once more. On the ground, tread left along the safe rock path, then maneuver around the rock in the way to a chest. Open it for a BRAVERY HELMET. If you want, go and kill all the enemies in this room and open the chest for a BRAVERY ARMOR, but otherwise go to the exit to the next roo,. In this SECOND room, head down to the right along a long path with some more geyster steams, and start watching the scene. Eventually, you'll have a boss fight. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= CAUCUS, ORCUS, MORUS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Prize(s): Caucus, Orcus, Morus, Counter Type 3 Your first step will be to use a Namia-Shreeker-Insector trio to greatly shift the battle in favor towards you. Furthermore, if you have a Termite card, use it, as Orcus can break your equipment (remember, he's a beefed-up version of a Duager). Lastly, you may also want to make sure you have a Vitra on hand, as without a healer, Vitra is your only way to heal everyone at once. Besides that, however, if you can get the Namia-Shreeker-Insector combo out, then the fight is pretty much over in your trio. Jian should attack as normal, and take the opportunity to sic the combined powers of Gabryel's Gale Cut and Rufus' Thunder Sword Specials, as they can usually take anywhere from 1/10ths to 1/5ths of the enemy trio's total HP. That, combined with some patience and the slow effects of poison, will make sure that they fall in no time. The only other noteworthy things are that Orcus can and will hit you twice in an attack much like Jian with his tri-attack (although he still at times only hits once), and Caucus can heal his alllies - unfortunately, the latter is positioned in the sky at the beginning of the battle, so it may take a while before you can unseat him. Furthermore, Morus can also steal items, as well as stealing two items in the same move. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After the battle, turn around from where you're displaced, and head north. You should find a stone ladder in the wall. Climb it up, and then go right and down the staircase to find a chest. Open it up for a PRAYER WATER, then head back to the staircase you were put at after beating the trio. Now go left along the path, avoiding the poison swamp, and climb up the ladder carved in the wall. Up top, open the chest for a HEALING DROP, then go back down. Continue left to exit into the next room. In here, pursue the left direction until you come to a poison swamp. Across the swamp is a ladder that leads up to the Blue Chest for later (contains a CRYSTAL GUARD), but ignore that for now. Instead, head right and go up the staircase, then continue right until you come to another staircase, and go down. Climb down the ladder to your left, and then run up-left across the poison swamp to a chest with a RESISTANCE RING in it on safe ground. Run back, climb up the ladder, then head straight down until there's a small branch of land extending out into the poison swamp to the right. Take this branch of land and follow it until you see some more safe land to the northeast. Run across the swamp, climb up the ladder at the other end, then head left to go up another ladder. Open the chest for a CRYSTAL SWORD. Head back to the mainland now, and go down and right until you come to two ladders, one next to the other. Take the right ladder, take another right ladder, and then one more right ladder before coming to a chest. Inside should be a HEALING GUM. Now go back down to the bottom, then head up the left ladder, then the right, then the left again, then continue on north-left 'til you come to a staircase. Head up, and then continue on to the exit and outside of Elda Canyon. Head out from there to Vile Castle. Vile Castle -=-=-=-=-=- Head in, and go straight up north-west along the hallway to the end, and you'll find a staircase. Clear out all the enemies in the room before you go, however, maneuvering around the open spaces in the floor tiles. Open the Blue Chest in the southern corner now to get a DEMON RING. Now go to about the center of the room, and head through up northeast a bit through the tiles in the floor. Go around to the left, and you should find a chest with a RESIST RING. Now go back out, and head west along the hallway up the staircase. On the next floor, you'll see that it's pretty linear. Head northeast up the hallway to another set of stairs. Repeat this for another room, and on the fourth floor, head about halfway, then make a twist and go left instead into the next room. In here, you'll have a cutscene. Once it's done, head along the long hallway to the next room. In here, head down and left of the staircase to open a chest for a MENTAL DROP, then go up and left of the staircase for a HEALING DROP. Now go up the staircase, and watch another cutscene. This battle cannot be won. After the scenes that follow, you'll be put back in Port Searis. Port Searis -=-=-=-=-=- From the Inn, head off to Gad's Express, and talk to Gad. Besides all the post-expressionism, you'll also get the Bell Shoes. After the fact, you shall also receive a new destination; to Zethos Castle, to talk to King Zethos about what to do next. Before you do that, however, go to the second floor of the inn in Port Searis and go into Room 202. Talk to Timothy, and he will give you the JUMP SHOES. Afterwards, make your way to Port Olbeage, and then the rest of the way to Zethos Castle. Zethos Castle -=-=-=-=-=-=- Head off to the throne room once you make it, and go and talk to King Zethos himself. After some plot background is revealed, you'll be sent off to talk to Titus in Healriz, so pack your bags and move out to Healriz by way of the Thieves' Woods once more. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1f. The Red Dragon REDDR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Healriz -=-=-=- Back in here, go to Titus' House, and talk to Titus himself. You'll learn a lot more story information, and afterwards, you'll be sent off to the Red Dragon Cave; to get there, you'll need to go by way of Roland Forest. At the same time, Flora will also join up with you again to bring your party back up to three members. Before going there, however, you have two stops to make in Healriz. The first is at the Inn (1st Floor). Talk to Aaron in here, and he'll tell you about the hazards of the Red Dragon Cave and the Insulation Crust. After that stop, go to the Item Shop as well; because there isn't a Statue of Althena after Roland Forest, you'll want a lot of healing items and Angel's Tears. Afterwards, exit out from West Healriz and go to Roland Forest. Roland Forest -=-=-=-=-=-=- From the start, go along the regular path that you took a while back to get to the Roland Cave, but stop once you begin to head north. Instead, go south from here along a second path, and you should wander another path. Take it and go down into the next area. In here, go down and examine the grave-like object next to the lake. It'll open up a bridge across the body of water, so run down to the other end, use the Statue of Althena if needed, then head out to the next section of Roland Forest. Coming in, head straight south until you're blocked by foliage that acts as the background. From here, continue southwest and west until you see a ramp going up onto a cliff. Take it, then do a clockwise loop until you get to the northern ramp. Head down, and go north until you spot the lake to the east. Head up next to the lake, and go clockwise around it's borders until you see the log bridge. The Blue Chest is there. Head west from here and north to find the exit from this area; kill all the enemies in the room to open the Blue Chest for some PAJAMAS, then exit out of Roland Forest. Out on the overworld, go to Barrel Desert. Barrel Desert -=-=-=-=-=-=- From the start, hug the left cliff as much as you can, and go left and up until you come to a sand staircase going down to the left. Take it, and continue on, opening up a chest for a MENTAL DROP next to the waterfall. Climb back up the staircase and go as far right as you can, then head up alongside the wall, until you come to a staircase. Heading up here, you'll find the Blue Chest. Now go down the staircase, head counterclockwise from here, and climb up another staircase. Starting at here, head straight southwest until you get to the left wall, then continue down and left a slight bit between the cliffs to see a chest. Go and open it for a PRAYER WATER. If you go down and right to find a staircase, you can go straight south from there along the dirt path to exit into the next room. Instead of doing that, however, go and kill all the monsters in the room. Open the Blue Chest for a DRAGON COAT. Next, when you go along the whirlpools again, drop down one of them to be put inside a cave. Inside the cave, depending on which side of the rock divide you are on, make your way to the left side (by going to the top, then heading left), and then go south to open a chest at the bottom of the screen for a HEALING GUM. Head back up, then go right and north some more to open another chest for a HEALING DROP. Go down the right side of the rock divider now, and at the second pathway leading extreme right, go and take it to find the blue chest. If you kill all the enemies first, you can open it for a STAR DRESS. Head back left, and then go straight down to exit out the cave. Make your way around to the top of the cliffs again outside, and head into the third room of Barrel Desert. In this area, head straight down along the side of the cliff, and when it begins to fold in to the right, follow it up to get onto the top of the cliff. Up here, go north and open a chest for a HEALING GUM, then head back down the cliff. Head straight down from here and then go left all the way onto a cliff, which has a Blue Chest on the upper-left corner. Head back down, then do a counterclockwise turn around the cliff to the left side. Head left, and you'll find the exit. Kill all the monsters in the area if you wish to open the Blue Chest for a TIGER'S UNIFORM, then leave Barrel Desert. Red Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- At the start, go up and right into the entrance, going through some text. It should be noted that, as a result of the intense heat in here, you will bleed HP at a constant pace until you get the Insulation Crust. Inside, head northeast along the hallway to enter the first monster-infested area. Go straight north from the entrance to go into a small space that contains the Blue Chest. Take note of it (Dragon Gloves), then head back south and go northwest. When you get onto the first branch that has a path heading out onto the lava, take the left side and go down to open the chest for a HEALING DROP. Get back onto the mainland again, continue north, and go right at the top. You should see a chest that is for the most part, obscured by the background. Open it for a MENTAL DROP, then head left and up to find the exit to the next room. Kill all the enemies in the room first if you want, and open the Blue Chest for some DRAGON GLOVES. Inside the next room, head straight up and take the first branching path left. At the dead end, you'll find the Blue Chest for later reference. Head back onto the main strip of land, then continue north. You'll see a second branch going off to the left, but ignore it for now; instead, continue on north and examine the hole at the end for the INSULATION CRUST. Go back down and then take the second path headed left now, and when you come to a fork, go down. At the bottom end of the path, you'll find a chest with a FORCE RING in it. Take the upper path now, and when you make your way past the twisting-and-turning path, head right to open a chest for an ANGEL'S TEARS. Now go left and head down and around clockwise until you come to another entrance guarded by two dragon statues. Go open the Blue Chest first if you want to obtain a COUNTER TYPE 4 (RING) and then come back. Save your game, and then go inside. Blah blah blah text. -=-=-=-=-= RED DRAGON =-=-=-=-=- Prize(s): Blazing Ring, Red Dragon, Flora Start off by using your Namia, Shreeker, and Insector cards to respectively trigger an Auto-Restoration, poison the Red Dragon, and increase the damage behind your attacks. In the second turn, set Jian and Gabryel on attacking the Red Dragon, while Flora should use Grand Weapon. The Red Dragon has three main attacks. The first is his simple magic spell, where he'll try to blind one of your party members. The second is where he'll shoot a fireball at one of your party members, which he uses the most. The last attack that he utilizes us a full-on flamethrower attack that will rip through all three of your fighters. However, that should not matter, because the Red Dragon is the first of four bosses that, if attacked with enough damage, will flinch and collapse until the end of next turn. In Jian's case, who could ideally be doing upwards of 600+ damage per attack, should be more than enough to make the Red Dragon fall down and stay down each turn, thus enabling the battle to be won with ease. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= More text. Afterwards, exit Red Dragon Cave, and make your way all the way back to Thieves' Woods. Now that you have the Blazing Ring, equip it onto Jian and you can perform your own Skill moves. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1g. The White Dragon WHTDR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Thieves' Wood -=-=-=-=-=-=- In here, make your way all the way to the last stretch of the woods just before the path to Perit Village. When you get to the section of the road so that all you have to do is walk northwest to exit and go to Perit Village, don't. Instead, go east, and then northeast out into a second exit. On the overworld map, go to the White Dragon Cave. White Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Go along the tracks, and examine the glowing white bar in front of the cave. After a crapload of talking, you'll obtain the SACRED STONE. Head off to Delrich Temple now. Delrich Temple -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Climb up the three giant set of stairs, and at the top of the third set, insert the Sacred Stone into the missing step. After some more dialogue, your party will decide to return to the White Dragon Cave, so head on back there. White Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Back at the ranch, go up to the doorway, then head inside. In the monster-free entrance, head north a bit, then go through the frame into the first monster-infested area. Inside, head north a bit, then go left up the staircase. Head up and then right, and loop around counterclockwise around the second staircase. Head left some more, then you'll find the Blue Chest for this room. Head back to the first staircase, go down, and then head right, up, and left again in a counterclockwise direction until you come to the exit into the next room at the northern side. If you wish to, slay all the enemies in the room to open the Blue Chest, which contains a DRAGON GAUNTLET. Coming into the next area, go north until you find a staircase. Ignore it, and then head straight left until you come to a second staircase. Ignore this one as well, then go left to spot the Blue Chest for this area (MENTAL DROP). Now head back to the last staircase, and head north instead alongside the cliff and wall. Hug it, and eventually, when you start going north with no right to go, you should find a hidden path that leads down to a chest with an EVASION RING. Head back up and continue north, then go left until you come to the two dragon statues. Save and enter. Plow through the text, and then fight. -=-=-=-=-=-= WHITE DRAGON =-=-=-=-=-=- Prize(s): Gale Ring, White Dragon, Lucia Much like the Red Dragon before him, you are best to start off by using a Namia- Shreeker-Insector card combo on the White Dragon, following up with a Grand Weapon by Flora. While a single one of Jian's attacks might not be sufficient to take down the White Dragon into collapsing mode like the Red Dragon before him, now that Jian can use Black Magic (if you have the Blazing Ring equipped), you can deal some ka-pow damage along with Gabryel. Other than that, White Dragon isn't really notable, having since fallen into another of the "filler" bosses. His entire lineup is basically similar to the Red Dragon's, except that instead of causing Blind, he causes Sleep, and his area-attack and single-person attack cause Wind Damage instead of Fire. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After the story, exit out of the White Dragon Cave. Go to Port Searis, heal up and resupply, then exit back out onto the world map between Port Searis and the Thieves' Forest. You should see a new flashing square to the north - the Meryod Submarine Cave. Go there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1h. The Black Dragon BLKDR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- West Meryod Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Head right from the entrance and go down two cliff slopes. Head far to the right to find another cliff slope, and go down this one as well. Go up to find the Blue Chest, then head right and down, left and down, and then right and down until you find the exit to the next room. Kill all the enemies in the room if you want to to obtain the SPIRIT'S HAIRCOMB, then head out. From the beginning of the second room, head down and go right as soon as you can to run smack into a chest, which will contain a HEALING GUM. Proceed southwest from here down the stairs, and continue on in a southwesterly direction to a chest which contains a PRAYER WATER. Head back up the stairs, and go right as far as you can until you reach a branch just before a small body of water. Here, go straight down to get into the third room. Start off in the third room by heading down and to the right until you get into a big open area. Go up and to the right to see the Blue Chest (Phoenix Claws), then head down to the left all the way to find a chest with a PRAYER WATER in it. From there, head down-right, and keep in this direction until you get to the end of the dungeon. If you want to, slay all the enemies in the room to get some PHOENIX CLAWS from the Blue Chest, then head outside. Go to East Meryod Cave on the overworld. East Meryod Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In the first room, head up to the right to examine the Statue of Althena and restore your HP and MP back to normal, then continue on down to the right. Coming in, proceed right and then head down the two staircases, and go right again, until you come into a large open area. Go down and left to find the Blue Chest (10000S), then head back up and take the lower right path, going down into the next area. Go straight down from the start, then head right and then up-right into the big area mass. From here, go up to the left to open a chest for a PRAYER WATER, then go back and head up to the right, down to the right, up to the right again, then down and left. At the end, go straight down to the exit into the next area. Head straight down, and then go up to the right past the staircase. Continue on until you get to a branch, and then head up to the right to spot the Blue Chest. Go back down to the split, and then go down. What results is an extremely linear but also very long pathway that leads to the exit. Once you make it, kill all the enemies in the room if you want to open the Blue Chest for 10000S, but otherwise leave out onto the overworld. On the map, head to Noapeace. Noapeace -=-=-=-= On a side note, if you want to head back to either of the other two continents, you can now go and take the ferry in Noapeace that has *just* started up again. Do what you need to in town, or go to the Gad's Express if you wish. However, to move on, you'll first have to go to the Inn, and then head to the 2nd floor. Enter the third door on the second floor and talk to Marion, and he'll tell you about the Photon Plant, mentioning the Black Dragon Cave with it. Exit, and then head off to the Valley of Neza. Valley of Neza -=-=-=-=-=-=-= From the start, head up straight north and run past the slope going up, but continue to hug the cliff while working your way north. You'll eventually come to a chest that contains a MENTAL GUM. Now head down east along the coastline, and you'll soon spot another chest, which contains a HEALING GUM. Head back to the slope at the beginning of the room, and go up. Head north and take the next two slopes in subsequence, then head down to the left to spot the Blue Chest. Head back up north to the other end of the cliff, and go down two slopes. Head south to open a chest for a HEALING DROP, then go north to find the exit for the room. Kill all the enemies in the room for a CRYSTAL BOW if you want, then head off into the next room. In this room, head immediately right and straight up to find a chest with an ANGEL'S TEARS in it, then go left onto the left. Head down, left, and then up to find the exit into the next room. Here, head straight north until the bottom floor slopes upwards onto the upper floor, and the continue your journey north and right, and go down two consecutive slopes. Go north a bit more and open the chest for a MENTAL DROP, then head back up the slopes, and go south all the way until you come across another slope. From this spot, go straight north, up a slope, and continue north to find a chest with a HEALING GUM in it. Now head back south while still staying on the upper cliffs, and go south and left to another slope tucked away deeper in the mountains. Up here, head down to the left and then go right for a chest with a PRAYER WATER. Go back to the slope, head up, and go east past the large slope to find the Blue Chest at the end. Go back to the slope and go up to find the exit for this area. If you want, kill the enemies in this area first to open the Blue Chest for a CLEAR RING. Out on the overworld, go to the Black Dragon Cave. Black Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Go up to the cave entrance, and listen to the dialogue. Head inside. In the first room, go past the ladder in the middle of the room and enter the cave door at the end. From the start, go up and east to spot the Blue Chest (Dragon Gloves), then head west and up until you come to a staircase. Instead, continue heading east, north, east, and south until you come to a branch at the east end of the room; take the northeast path, and go up the stairs. Here, move against the edge of the ravine (not the wall) past the hole to your left, and open the chest for a MENTAL DROP. Now drop down said hole and open the chest below for a SHIELD RING, then continue by dropping down the next hole. Here, go clockwise or counterclockwise to the bottom half of the screen and climb up. Up one floor, go south and west to find another ladder, and head up to start off back in the first room of the cave. Go back into the main area, and head back to the chest where you got the Mental Drop. From here, go west a short ways, then south, dropping down the hole. Down below, examine the plant on this particular wall to find the Photon Plant, then drop down and repeat the whole procedure of getting back to the main room. Head back to the main room again, and go to the Mental Drop chest. Head west as far as you can, and when you finally begin to go deep south, drop through the top of the two holes there. Down below, grab a SPIRIT GUARD from the chest, then head back up to the main room. At the Mental Drop chest again, head up straight north, then go east, running left while pressing against the wall to keep yourself from falling down the hole. Go up the staircase, and you'll find the two dragon statues. Save first, then enter. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= BLACK DRAGON/DARK JIAN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Prize(s): Earth Ring, Dark Jian, Black Dragon This battle will be a two-piece battle. First, you'll have to fight the Black Dragon, and once he falls, a new battle will start (rendering any card or spell effects no longer in use) where you'll have to face off against Dark Jian, a shadow opposite of Jian. Black Dragon is pretty much the same as the White and Red Dragons, only significantly stronger with his single and multi-earth attacks being able to deal some strong damage. As such, in addition to the classic Namia-Shreeker- Insector trio, casting Grand Shell may also be recommended. Thankfully, you won't have to deal with any status effects this battle around, but at the same time, Black Dragon will not collapse (at least, from personal experience; he may still do so, but it seems to take a LOT more firepower before he goes down) Facing off against Dark Jian is the more difficult part of this battle, as not only can he attack you with a three-kick attack (which hurts if you don't have high defense), but can also do an earthquake attack that can do major damage to the three of your characters. In this case, don't go with your classic card trio (although Insector is still recommended for use); instead, use cards like Quetzalcoatl and Ochu to make sure that his power is greatly reduced, along with having Flora cast Grand Shell, then fire back at him. Using cards like Kuntukapu or Hellbird to use your Skills isn't totally out of the question, either. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After the battle, leave Black Dragon Cave, and go to Noapeace. Heal up there, head back onto the overworld map, and go to the East Moto Rainforest. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1i. The Blue Dragon BLUDR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- East Moto Rainforest -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= At the start, go down a small amount, then head left at the branch and down. You should see the Blue Chest covered by some foliage (Fighting Fists). Go back up and right, then head down along the light-colored grass to the exit. In the next part of the rainforest, there isn't much that you can do right now. Go southwest along the light-green grass, and exit out onto the overworld. Go to Rebric Village from here. Rebric Village -=-=-=-=-=-=-= In town, go to Saul's House, and inside, talk to Saul himself. He'll tell you about three treasures that you'll need to get in the Blue Dragon's Cave to cut off water flow. After, exit Rebric Village as a whole through the western exit, and go to West Moto Rainforest. West Moto Rainforest -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here, go down the slope, and then head along the light-green grass up to the left, and slip behind the trees, which conceal a hidden path. Behind them, go left some more and open a chest for a HEALING GUM. Also around here is the Blue Chest. Go back out, and then head down southwest along the grassy path until you come to the exit into the next room. Now, you can kill all the monsters here to get an AMULET from the Blue Chest if you so wish, then go into the second room. In here, go west a bit, and then head straight down through the tree cover. Go south as far down as you can and then left to find the Blue Chest, then head back north a bit and go left through another path between the trees. On the other side, go northwest and then north and right a bit to find a chest that contains a HEALING DROP, then head back and go south and left. Follow the path until you get to the exit into the next room. If you want to, kill all the enemies in the room to open the Blue Chest for a pair of CRYSTAL BOOTS. At the start of this room, head counterclockwise around the circle of trees at the start, then go left some more and up the slope onto the cliff. Head left some more and you'll spot the Blue Chest for this room. Go back down the slope, then head down and left until you find the exit. If you want to, kill all the enemies here to open the Blue Chest for a FRESH RING, then exit out. On the overworld, go to the Blue Dragon Cave. Blue Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Head up to the entrance of the cave for some dialogue, then inside. From the first area inside, go northeast along the path, and then into the first monster-infested area. In here, head up, and go northwest to the exit of this room, ignoring any monsters. Go straight down from the exit through the wall, and go down and right to a chest that contains a MAGIC BOOSTER. As it is now, slay all enemies in this room, then go to the right side of the map and cross the mini-islands to a Blue Chest, which contains a CRYSTAL HAIRCOMB. Go into the next room now. In this room, head up to the left until you come to a branch between up- left and down-left, and take the down-left path into an open space with a cave door. Enter. Inside here, go and examine the rock in the middle of the screen, and it'll spout out, lowering the water levels outside. Slay all the enemies in this room to open the Blue Chest for a MENTAL DROP (By the way, if you're doing this, a note; these small rooms can't display 5-7 monster icons at once, so exit and reenter after killing the first four. Otherwise, if you want to avoid fighting them, use a Ghoula card). Exit outside, and head to the last branch; this time, go straight north. Go left from the top until you come to just above a waterfall. Go north, east, southeast, and then north again to find another cave. Enter this one. Inside, slay all the enemies in the room to open the Blue Chest for a PRAYER WATER, and then activate the second of the three spouts to once more lower the water level outside. Exit out into the main part of the cave, then go to the beginning of this room. Instead of going left, head right, and go down- right and continue at the branch. At the next branch, go right again and enter. Inside, kill all the enemies to open the Blue Chest for a REFRESH RING. Activate the spout, then leave. Outside, go left from the branch, and when you get to the second fork in the road, head north. Some land will have risen up now that the water is drained, and you are now free to get to the door guarded by two dragon statues. Save, then enter. -=-=-=-=-=- BLUE DRAGON =-=-=-=-=-= Prize(s): Tidal Ring, Blue Dragon, Jian Much like the Black Dragon fight, this battle will be a two-round fight. Unlike the battle in the Black Dragon Cave, however, you don't need to win the first face-off. This will involve Jian going it alone against the Blue Dragon. All you have to do is last through a number of turns, and you'll go into the second fight (alternatively, if Jian dies, you'll still go into the second fight, but Jian will only have one HP). In the second fight, you'll have Flora and Gabryel joining you. Quickly heal Jian up, and use cards such as Quetzalcoatl and Ochu, while casting Grand Weapon and Grand Shell to make the battle more one-sided. You'll especially want to use your Skills in this battle between Jian and Gabryel, as the Blue Dragon can summon four bubble-like creatures that will detonate on you, causing great amounts of damage; the Skill attack can hit all of them at once. Besides that, the Blue Dragon is also capable of sending a tidal wave at your entire party, or hitting one party member with a water attack. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Plot, and the situation suddenly gets much more desparate. Head back to Rebric Village now. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1j. Showdown with the Vile Tribe! SWTVT =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Rebric Village -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Back in town, head to Tovia's House, and talk to Tovia himself. Answer "No", and he'll tell you about stone flowers known as Anthodites that can be found there. As much as it galls you to probably have to do so, head back to the Blue Dragon Cave now. Blue Dragon Cave -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Go to the big room in this cave. From that room's entrance, go left, north, left, north again, then go right to find the flowers (they are orange, and can be found shortly after the gentle waterfall). Examine the flower on the bottom, and you'll obtain the Anthodite. Head back to Rebric Village now, then go on back to East Moto Rainforest. East Moto Rainforest -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Instead of heading straight north on the path back to Noapeace, instead, go right from the entrance to the southeast exit into another room. In the second area, go straight right and down on the dirt road, until it breaks off, then continue south onto another portion of the road. Head left from here and open the chest behind the trees for a MENTAL DROP, then go back onto the road. When you start heading right and get onto another section of the road, go south and open another chest in front of some trees to obtain a PRAYER WATER. Get back onto the track, and go straight north from here to spot the Blue Chest (5963S). Head back south onto the track again, then go right and up along the dirt road, until you come to a slope, which you should henceforth go up. Head straight southeast from the slope, and open the chest for a HEALING DROP. Continue southeast a bit more, and proceed down a second slope. Go southwest for now along the road, but when you begin to go straight south, head up instead and open a chest for an ANGEL'S TEARS. Now go down along the road, and then southeast some more to exit onto the overworld. Head to the Tower of Kirlis from here. Tower of Kirlis -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Just a note for this area; the electrical balls that shoot out of the walls should be avoided, as they can cause you to lose HP. From the first floor, head left and then up to spot the Blue Chest. Go back to the entrance, and then head straight up between the pipes and go up the staircase in the center of the room (slay all the enemies in the room first if you so wish for a FIGHTER'S HAIRBAND). Upstairs, go out of the pipes of death, and run around the room counterclockwise to a staircase that heads downstairs. In this room, simply head down and left up the next staircase, and on the second floor again, head right in between the pipes. Move up and right again to spot the Blue Chest, then head back to the left side of the room and go up to find the next staircase. Kill all your foes in the room if you want to get an ANGEL'S TEARS from the Blue Chest, then go onto the upper staircase. Next floor, go onto the upper staircase again, and open the chest here for a HEALING RING. Head back down two floors, and this time, take the bottom staircase. Go right from the entrance to this room, and then head up alongside the pipes and columns into the northeastern corner of the room to find a chest, which contains a MENTAL DROP. From here, head back to the three staircases, and take the upper one again. Up here, go to where the Healing Ring chest was, and head south from there, then go left to a staircase. On the bottom floor, slay all the enemies in the room, and open the Blue Chest there for a CHAMPION'S UNIFORM. Head to the first room again (or use Flora's Escape magic to get there), and run straight north into the staircase in the column in the middle of the room. In here, go up from the column, then right to the easternmost-corner of the room. Head up the stairs here. At the top, talk to Kirlis. Give him the anthodite, then head up the second staircase to the top. Go under the stone circle right underneath the ship, and move around until you activate a conversation, then head downstairs and talk to Kirlis. He'll send you off to Negri Ocean Lab. To get there, exit the Tower of Kirlis, head back to Noapeace via the Moto Rainforest, and go to Port Obleage (Shell Pier on the map). Exit Port Obleage, and the Negri Ocean Lab should be on the overworld map just north of Port Obleage. Negri Ocean Lab -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- At the start, move across the entrance hallway, dodging the falling rocks. Once you reach the end, go around the acid pools to the right side, and enter the open door. Inside, head across the room to the east doorway, and in the next area, take the lower right frame. In here, grab the GAOS' NECKLACE from the chest in the southern corner, and a GLASSES from a chest in the eastern corner. Exit back out from this room, go into the north-east room. Inside, flip the switch. Leave the room. Outside, head all the way back to the entrance room. Here, the door to your left that was closed previously should now be open as a result of flipping the lever, so head inside. Cross the next room to the northern exit, and in this large room, take the left open doorway. In here, head up to the right corner to flip the lever, and, if you want, kill all the enemies in the room to open the chest for a PALADIN SUIT (although you will have to exit and reenter the room to have more enemies show up after you kill three). Now that you've flipped the lever, backtrack to the right side of the Lab, in the room inbetween the two rooms that had the first lever and the Gaos' Necklace/Glasses. The door that was previously sealed on the left wall should be shut, so go inside. Flip the lever in here, and then head over to the left side of Negri Ocean Lab again, outside the room with the second lever. Going north, you should find that another door that was previously sealed (if you bothered exploring) is now open, so enter. Go right in the next room, and in here, head down the long hallway and examine the crystal-structure at the end. You shall then obtain the LEVITATION STONE. With that obtained, use Flora's Escape magic to leave the dungeon, and go all the way back to Tower of Kirlis. Tower of Kirlis -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Talk to Kirlis in his room, and then head up to the roof. Fumble around the metal pod right under the ship pressing A and the D-Pad, and eventually you should initiate a cutscene. Having now obtained the airship, you can go most places now by air alone. The exceptions are all four Dragon Caves, Barrel and Sandra Desert, and Delrich Temple. This is because you can only fly to the towns and Vile Castle, and the other dungeons can be accessed by going to the nearest town, and exiting out onto the world map again. With that in mind, do any wrapping up that you need to do, then go to Vile Castle. Vile Castle -=-=-=-=-=- Here, head inwards inside the actual castle. Indoors, head around and finish off all the monsters, then go through the northern break in the floor at the beginning of the room until you hit the northern wall, then go left to a chest that contains a RESIST RING. With the monsters done for, go through the break on the southern side between the second and third gargoyle statues, and loop around counterclockwise for a DEMON RING from the Blue Chest. Get back onto the main path, then head west and up the long stairs to the next room. Upstairs, just head along the hallway to the next set of stairs, and do the same on the third floor. It does not matter as to whether or not you finish off all the monsters on either floor, as there is no Blue Chest to warrant doing so. On the fourth floor, enter the room, cross the first chamber, then head up the hallway. Head up the dual set of stairs to take on a boss fight. -=-=-=-= GIDEON 1 =-=-=-=- Prize(s): Counter Type Final, Angel Ring, Gideon Time to start spamming your cards, although you should not go all out with them yet (you have a couple of battles left after this) and end up breaking them. Comet and Enigma are both cards that should be used as Gideon sticks to magic- based attacks, along with offensive favorites such as Abadon and Insector (you may want to save Duager for later on if its P value is low). After you have done that, move to your Special attacks and pound the stuffing out of Gideon, with Flora buffing up the attack with Grand Weapon. And yes, he should just go down right like that. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After the battle, take either of the stairs behind the throne up a floor, and go outside at the top through the southern door. Take the northwestern path, and you will be taken into a outdoor forest area. There are no Blue Chests or regular chests to pursue in this area, and the only goal is for you to kill all the monsters here. Go into Virtue Mode, and hunt down and take out every foe, and you will be teleported to a room with a chest containing the ALTHENA card. Exit out the right door after, and head back into the main castle area. This is the same theme for the other three paths; go inside, go to an area where you have to kill some enemies, and then get a prize chest. The southwest passageway contains the RUFUS card, the southeast contains IGNATIUS card, and the northeast contains the GIDEON 3 card. For the northeast, you may also want to use a MadFang card to get the enemies to come to you. Afterwards, head back to the central room, and go up to the portal to activate a scene, and another battle. -=-=-=-= GIDEON 2 =-=-=-=- Prize(s): Angel Ring Nearing the last battle. Stick with the same stuff as before (Comet, Enigma, Abadon, Insector, and possibly Duager, along with Grand Weapon by Flora). At this stage of the game, you should be able to throw everything at him and easily finish him off. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= Heal up at the Althena statue inside, then go up the stairs for another battle. -=-=-=-= GIDEON 3 =-=-=-=- As unfortunate as it is, this is the last battle. However, this effectively means that you can now start bringing out all the big guns for the final showdown. Above all, bring out Duager if you still have any uses on it, and also consider Shreeker - although Gideon 3 is still as easy as the forms before him, he still has a crapload of HP on him, and so using any technique that wears him down steadily every turn is useful. After that, it goes back to Comet, Enigma, Abadon, Insector, Grand Weapon, etc., and using your Special Attacks until he is finally defeated. -=-=-=-=- END FIGHT =-=-=-=-= After the scenes, head west down the staircase, then exit out for some more scenes. The end. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2a. Controls CTRLS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Touch Screen -=-=-=-=-=-= While travelling in a monster-infested area, pressing the emblem on the lower screen will give you the option to switch between Virtue and Combat modes. The same thing goes for opening the menu and starting a consultation with your party members. It also allows you to select an icon (although you'll have to press the A button on the bottom-right corner to confirm, B to deny). When on an overview, you can toggle between pages of areas to visit by tapping the tabs on the bottom screen. While someone is talking, you can tap the screen multiple times to scroll through text. Lastly, you can move Jian in any of the four cardinal diagonal directions by pressing and holding the arrows on any of the four corners of the bottom screen. D-Pad -=-=- The D-Pad allows you to toggle in between text options using the cursor while going through battle and on the menu screen. More importantly, it allows you to run around while in one of the dungeons, forests, or towns, and you can use it to guide the icon while on a town or world map overview. A Button -=-=-=-= The A button will be your main button throughout the game, as it allows you to OK and confirm any choices that you make whether it be shopping or fighting, examine objects, and talk to other people along with scrolling through text. B Button -=-=-=-= Should you want to cancel any choices that you have made during shopping or equipment-changing before you actually finish it, the B Button does that. Furthermore, if you go into AUTO Combat mode during a battle, you can switch out of it at the end of the current turn by pressing B. Lastly, if you press and hold B while travelling, you can run in combination with the D-Pad (however, you will lose HP while you are at it). X Button -=-=-=-= While traveling throughout a town or dungeon, press the X button to bring up the menu. During battle, in between fighting when you're choosing your battle tactics for the next set of attacks, you can also use X to see the names of all the monsters or bosses you're fighting (useful for when you need certain items or Cards in Combat Mode), and press X again to get back to battling. Y Button -=-=-=-= Only available when you're actually travelling, and not on an overworld or town map, pressing the Y button will allow the various team members that are assembled together at the time to have a mini-chat about what's going on next, or, should Jian be by himself, look into his soliliquoy. L Button -=-=-=-= While in the shops, pressing the L button allows you to switch between characters to see what equipment is compatible with what character and whether it's better than your current equipment. In battle, pressing and holding it will speed up the battle by 2x. R Button -=-=-=-= While in the shops, pressing the R button allows you to switch between characters to see what equipment is compatible with what character and whether it's better than your current equipment. In battle, pressing and holding it will speed up the battle by 3x. Finally, while in any rooms of a dungeon that has monsters in it (not possible in monster-less rooms such as many cave entrances), you can use it to switch between Combat and Virtue Mode. Start Button -=-=-=-=-=-= During the travelling portion of the game, in both dungeons and towns, pressing Start will show you the mini-guidebook that the game offers on the two different battle modes. Microphone -=-=-=-=-= Breathe into the mike during a battle (while choosing your choices) to try and run away. Not guaranteed to work. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2b. Traversing Overworld and Towns/Dungeons TOTDS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When traversing the overworld or any town, you'll be given a number of options as to where you want to go. You can go where you want to go by either moving the cursor on the top screen over to one the available flashing white squares, or else you can tap the option on the bottom screen (scrolling between pages by tapping the tabs), and once done, head off to where you want to go. On the top screen, you will see Jian and anyone else who may be in the party at the time, and you can move them around to wherever you wish for them to go. On the bottom screen there is a variety of items. They do the following; Stopwatch - When you are in Virtue Mode in a monster-infested area, and you eliminate at least one enemy, the clock will start a counterclockwise rotation. If you allow it to complete a single revolution by being idle and not killing any more monsters, a monster will come back into the room. The only way to keep it from continuing to tick is if you kill all enemies in the room using Virtue Mode, in which case it will stop altogether. Checkbox - Used in monster-infested areas, every time you kill a monster in Virtue Mode, one of the boxes will be checked. Alternatively, if the stopwatch completes a revolution, a box will be unchecked. Should you kill all the monsters in a room, 30% of your total HP and MP will be restored to each character, and, if there is a blue chest in the room, opens up the blue chest. Portrait - This picture of Jian will be either red or blue, and is set to blue by default in non-monster-infested rooms and towns. When the portrait is blue, Jian's party will be in Combat Mode, which allows you to collect items and Cards off of enemies. When it is red, it will allow you to collect Althena Points, your basic EXP. You can switch between modes by either tapping the portrait or pressing the R Button. Menu - Tapping this allows you to access the menu. Can also be done by pressing the X Button. Two People - Touching this icon of two people facing each other will put your party into discussion time with each other over recent events or what is looming ahead. Should Jian be alone, it will instead show one of his soliliquoys. Four Directional Icons - Pressing these will cause Jian to walk in the direction that you have signified him to go. Finally, at the bottom of the screen is a scroll with the names of your current party members, and their current HP and MP. This is an important thing to keep track of, especially when you are running around. Running -=-=-=- A feature almost universally disliked, running requires you to hold down the B button (or tap B for short sprints) and press the D-Pad in the direction you want to go. The downside to this is that when you run, you lose HP at a steady rate. Once any one of your party members falls to 30% or below of their total HP, you will no longer be able to run any further until that particular person gets healed. Nevertheless, this will hurt more in the early game than in the later game, when you could run for a long time and have used up only a small chunk of your HP. Healing -=-=-=- Many RPG veterans will expect to use an inn or something resemblant of in order to restore their status to full perks. In Lunar, this isn't the case. Instead, you must search out an Althena Statue in the town square/well area of any of the urban centres, or else find one in one of the dungeons. The following dungeons have an Althena Statue. Thieves' Wood - The area with the bridge between Healriz and Perit Village-Port Searis is a sanctuary area, and has it's own Althena Statue. Delrich Temple - At the base of the large staircase is an Althena Statue. Roland Forest - The room with the water-bridge to Barrel Desert holds an Althena Statue, and is also a monster-free area. Cathedral of Althena - The Principal's Office to the left side of the hallway has a Statue. Vile Castle - Just before facing off against the final boss, there is an available Althena Statue for you to use. Dungeons -=-=-=-= When going around in dungeons in Virtue Mode, the checkbox and stopwatch will come into play. Every time you kill an enemy, a box will be checked. Should the stopwatch fulfill a complete counterclockwise revolution, a monster will be returned to the arena. Once you slay all monsters in one room in Virtue Mode, every character will be restored 30% of his/her total HP and MP, and you will be allowed to open the Blue Chest in the room if there is one. The monsters follow the open Lunar formula of running around on the main screen, and will only fight you if you come into contact with them (in the vein of such games as Chrono Cross, Xenosaga, and Final Fantasy XII). They will only be able to run at the exact same speed as you unless determined otherwise by Cards, but if you choose to Run, you can outspeed them. Monsters will only reform after a revolution of the clock, if you leave the room and reenter (only happens to monsters killed during Combat Mode), or if you leave the dungeon altogether and reenter. Several dungeons will have rooms (usually entrances) that are entirely monster-free. In here, you may sometimes find an Althena Statue, but otherwise, are not important to the game. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2c. Battle and Battle Modes/Blue Chests BBMBC =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Of course, in all RPGs, you'll have to fight eventually. Lunar goes through the generic battle setup of attacking/items/magic, but it has a side twist with two different battle modes. Without further ado. Manual and Auto Combat -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= When you first start battling, you have a choice; you can either manually input all of your characters' commands, or else you can let the computer do all of the actions for you. AUTO combat is really a faux de pas, however; all your party does when you choose it is straight out blindly attack. It IS, nonetheless, useful for many times when you just need to get through a battle and don't want to waste time inputting round after round of attacks. Manual combat obviously will allow you to choose what your characters will do. Basic Attack, Items, and Specials -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The game gives you a total of three things you can do, with two divided into further suboptions. You will not be able to pass an attack even if you want to. Basic Attack is explanatory, as the character will use their weapon on one of the enemies on the bottom screen (or, in the case of Flora, on either of the screens). Regular Items or Cards can both be used in battle. The former can be used to restore HP, MP, or any status effects, while the latter can cause a larger variety of effects. The last type of attack you can do is a Special, which always costs magic points (MP). The type of special that you can cast varies by which character you are using. Jian can use an elemental black magic (which doesn't really seem to vary in damage, as there is no elemental hierarchy) during the latter half of the game if he has a Dragon Ring equipped. Rufus and Gabryel can each use a special Beastmen technique to cause overall damage to all enemies, while Lucia and Flora can use Althena Magic, which ranges from healing a character, to upping your stats temporarily for a battle, to escaping from a battle. Battle Modes - Virtue and Combat -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= And now for the real kicker of the game. While traveling through a dungeon, you can switch between modes by either touching the Jian portrait or pressing R. A red background signifies Virtue Mode, while a blue background signifies Combat Mode. What is the difference? Virtue Mode is the worshipping state of the Goddess Althena, and when you slay a monster, allows you to gain Althena points, which are your basic experience points. Combat Mode, on the other hand, will cause enemies to instead drop sundry items and cards, the former of which can be used to complete Gad's Express requests and gain money for equipment. NO MONEY IS GOTTEN FROM BATTLE AND MUST BE OBTAINE THROUGH GAD'S EXPRESS. Although it seems like a rather poor choice for the designer team, there is one reason that it's not that bad; see the section right after Blue Chests below, 'Why Power Leveling Won't Work'. However, completing Virtue Mode can also lead you to a shortcut for getting equipment, as it allows you to open Blue Chests. Consequently, there is still another difference between Virtue and Combat Mode. When you play in Virtue Mode and kill a monster, one of the checkboxes on the bottom screen will be checked, and the clock will begin a counterclockwise rotation. Should you wait for the clock to finish it's revolution, the monster will reappear; you can force the clock to restart by killing another foe. Once all enemies in the room are dead, you can open Blue Chests and gain back 30% of your total HP and MP for all characters. The clock will also permanently stop going backwards in this case, leaving the room empty until you leave the dungeon. In the case of Combat Mode, all you have to do is exit and reenter the room to restoer all enemies. Blue Chests -=-=-=-=-=- As stated in the section above, to open a Blue Chest, you must first kill all the enemies in the same room as a Blue Chest in Virtue Mode. Doing so will completely finish the checkbox, and every character will gain back 30% of his/her total HP and MP. Blue Chests are found only in dungeons, and not every room will necessarily have one. They can contain minor items, such as a Healing Drop, but can also contain powerful weapons and armor that might otherwise take hours of Gad's Express requests to buy. Why Power Leveling Won't Work -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As you no doubt may have tried to do in the past, you might try to level up several times at the start of the game and blaze through hordes of enemies on your way to the endgame. Won't work in Lunar: Dragon Song. There is one reason for this: monsters and bosses base their stats off of your own stats, specifically the level that Jian is currently at. You go up a level, their stats go up. You go up a level, their stats go up to match that. As such, much of winning the game depends on getting good equipment and cards. What Monsters can Break and Steal -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- An extremely annoying aspect of this game is the fact that a number enemies can break your equipment, and steal your items. This would normally not be too annoying, except for the fact that, a) Many monsters after the first handful of dungeons can break your equipment, and b) It can take a lot of time to reassemble the money to get new equipment. As such, I have compiled a list of enemies that can steal items and break your equipment. Should you ever come upon them, either slay them fast, or use a Yeti card in the case of stealing, or Termite card in the case of breaking. Those who can Steal: •Yeti •Sturge •Thanatos •Ice Mongrel •Ochu Those who can Break: •Treant •Duager •Abadon •Quetzalcoatl What your Stats Represent -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- •HP - This represents the amount of damage that you can take from an enemy before you go down. When you are eliminated, you can only be revived either by an Angel's Tear Item, if you have an Angel Ring equipped (max of once per battle), or waiting it out until the battle is over. •MP - In order to perform Magic or Specials, one will require the minimal amount of MP to perform their attack. Once your MP drops below the required amount, you will no longer be able to use that attack until you restore your MP. •Attack - This corresponds to the amount of physical damage that your character can cause. The higher the stat, the more damage you will cause to a foe. •Defense - Representative of your ability to defend, your defense stat is what determines how much damage you receive from an attack, and the higher it is, the lower the attack damage. •Agility - The greater amount of agility that you have, the better of a chance that you will have of evading an attack from an incoming enemy. •Intelligence - By increasing your Int. status, any Black Magic or Specials that you use will have increased damage. Alternatively, Althena Magic that is used for healing will have more bang to it, and a higher Intelligence rating means less damage from enemy specials. •Dexterity - The Dexterity stat affects your rate of accuracy in hitting the enemy, and the higher it is, the more likely you are to hit the enemy. •Luck - A higher luck rating will greatly increase your chance of causing a critical hit. It may also increase the likelihood of getting a Rare drop or Card in Combat Mode (UNCONFIRMED). Monsters -=-=-=-= When you enter a battle, you will have anywhere from one to seven enemies that you must defeat, colliquoaly known as monsters. These same monsters, at the end of the battle, will drop either an amount of experience points, or an item. The item they drop is further divided into their common drop, and the rare item that they will only on the occasion drop. Most monsters can be status-inflicted, and their stats will go up in time as Jian's levels are built up. As a final warning, SAVE OFTEN if you plan to go fight monsters; after the first few dungeons, many monsters can break your equipment or steal items, and getting the money to replace these items can be a pain. Bosses -=-=-= Bosses are powerful enemies that, in the case of Dragon Song, must always be fought to advance the story, and can dish out and receive more damage than usual. However, ALL bosses can be poisoned and put to sleep, and are completely vulnerable to any Card's effects (useful, when you consider that Poison will detract 5% of a boss's total HP every turn). You will NEVER be able to obtain experience points off of them; every time you fight them, you will automatically be in Combat Mode. Monster Formation/Airborne Monsters -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Many times throughout the game, you will come face-to-face with resilient odds of monsters, often going up against as many as eight enemies. Up to four monsters can fit on the bottom screen, and another four on the top. Under normal circumstances, you can only fight the enemies on the bottom screen. However, if you have a long-range weapon (Flora's Bow), you can shoot them down, or else you can use a Special Attack (Jian's Black Magic, Gabryel or Rufus' Specials) to nail them from below. The airborne monsters will only come down to the bottom screen if there is available room for them to do so; as such, you will first have to kill enemies on the bottom screen, then kill the second wave of enemies (as a further note, sometimes aerial enemies will have an empty space under them at the start of battle. When this happens, wait for one turn to pass and they'll drop down). Counterattacks -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Counterattacks occur when a monster tries to attack one of your characters, fails, and leaves itself open for a retaliatory attack. When this happens, your character will attack said monster, and it does not waste your regular turn. However, you can only counterattack if you have a Counterattack Type # Ring equipped in your Accessories, and only that character equipped with the ring can counterattack. Critical -=-=-=-= On the rare occasion, Jian and co. may end up doing 1.5x the damage that they will normally do. When this happens, it is called a "critical attack". The chances of causing a critical hit go up as your Luck rating becomes stronger. Cards -=-=- Throughout the game, when you are in Combat Mode and you fight a monster, you might get their card should you not have a copy of it yet. Cards can be used with various effects until they break, in which case you can go get a new one. They are described in more detail in the 2e. Cards section. Equipment -=-=-=-=- Equipment is divided up into five different types of wear - your weapon, armors, headgear, arm-protectors, and accessories. These items can be either bought from regular equipment shops, purchased from Janus in Leephon City, obtained from a few miscellaneous characters, or taken from chests/Blue Chests in dungeons. Be warned, however; many enemies in the game can break equipment, so don't always sell off that expensive-but-still-useful weapon, and save repeatedly. Status Effects -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Much like basically every turn-based RPG on the face of the planet, monsters in Lunar: Dragon Song can cause you status effects. Some of the status effects will go away after battle; however, Poison will not wear off until you use magic or the correct item to cure it (even an Althena Statue will not heal Poison). Only Poison and Paralysis have items specifically dedicated to healing that status effect (Antidote and Paraclean respectively); everything else must be cured by a Prayer Water, Cure Squall, or else waiting until the end of the battle. Everything can be cured by Prayer Water or Cure Squall, so I'm not going to talk about that below. •Poison - Every turn, 5% of your total HP will be taken out of your current HP. However, if you walk on the overworld or field with Poison on, it will not actually harm you; it will just linger on you from battle to battle until you finally cure it. •Sleep - The character is put to sleep. Said character can then be awoken either by waiting for him to wake up, or else if s/he is attacked by a monster, in which case he'll automatically wake up. •Blindness - Your rate of accuracy at an attack connecting sharply drops until it wears off. However, it does not guarantee a 100% miss rate, and will not affect your Specials (which hits with 100% anyways). •Paralysis - Paralysis will bind the character for several turns until he recovers from his shock, preventing him from doing anything until he does so. •Confusion - Although it will not actually stop you completely from attacking, being confused will disorient the character, and you have a percentage chance (not sure, but I'd guess 50-50) of the character to pass over his attack. It will eventually wear off. •Silence - Anybody who gets silenced will not be able to voice any spells or Specials, and will have to wait for it to wear off. •Petrify - The character is turned to stone, and simply put, cannot move at all until the effects of the petrification wear off. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2d. Gad's Express GDEXR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Throughout the early portions of the game, you'll likely be wondering, 'Why am I not getting any money from these fights?' The answer is that the items from Combat Mode are used for the primary venture of money-grabbing in this game; Gad's Express. What is Gad's Express? How does it relate to me? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Gad's Express is a near-worldwide courier service (Frontier excluded) that has a building in each settlement except for Leephon City (negated by Port Olbeage nearby), and, of course, Lind Village of the Frontier. Jian and Lucia are two such employees in the service of the Express, and the story in fact kick-starts itself off with the duo having to go and deliver a package. In return for delivering items, you will get a prefixed amount of silver, Lunar's currency. Are the Missions fixed? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Whenever you go to find a new job, the place you are at will list four missions that you can accept. If none of them are to your liking, then simply exit the Mission screen, and talk to the person at the Gad's Express mission to rescramble up the missions. What do I deliver? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Every mission will require you to deliver a certain quantity of at least one type of item, up to five or six. These items may be bought from the square at Port Olbeage, but the majority of items must be obtained by fighting monsters in Combat Mode, each of which have a common item drop and a rare item drop. To Whom and How Do I Deliver? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- With only a few exceptions such as port captains and important NPCs, you can deliver to just about any non-playable character in any of the towns, including Leephon City, but not Lind Village. All you have to do is go and talk to the person that you need to deliver the package to, and they'll give you a receipt. Take the receipt back to any Gad's Express, and you'll get it refunded for your moolah. Until the very end of the game, you should try restricting deliveries to the city that you are taking the delivery from. What's with Port Olbeage? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- At the city square in Port Olbeage, there are two merchants who will sell you sundries for low costs, which you can turn around and deliver to make a lot of profit instead of going out to hunt for monsters and getting items from there. A list of the missions that you can do completely with Port Olbeage items is right below. What Does A Blue Number Signify/Which Missions Can Be Done Completely With Port Olbeage Items? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Whenever you go to choose a mission, you will sometimes see that the quantity of a certain item is highlighted in blue. When this happens, it means that you already have the correct number on you already, and you don't have to go out and hunt monsters or buy the Sundries. To my knowledge, the following missions can be done completely with sundries bought from Port Olbeage; •A Craving for Pottery (Iridescent Rock x15, Clay x21, Wood x5) •A Noahpeace Delicacy (Fish Feet x10, Mermaid's Scale x4, Fossil x13, Spongy Fluid x3, Scale x2) •Deliver Fossil (Fossil x6) •Deliver Hand Mirror (Hand Mirror x6) •Deliver Rusty Kettle (Rusty Kettle x3) •Deliver Scale (Scale x6) •From Roland Forest (Mushroom Spore x17, Wood x3, Iridescent Rock x6) •To Decorate My Room (Iridescent Rock x5, Bird Feather x8, Expensive Plate x2, Chocolate x10, Light Feather x11) What do I do in the 'To Gad's Express' mission? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- On the occasion, you may come across a mission that requires you to deliver a Package to 'Gad' in a certain city. When you accept this mission, you AUTOMATICALLY get the Package from your current Gad's Express location, and you must take it to the Gad's Express in the specified destination. Once there, you'll automatically get your fee for delivering the package. How do you get 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star Missions? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- In order to be able to do 2-star missions, you must first accomplish a certain number of 1-star missions. For 3-stars, do some 2-stars. For 4-stars, 3- stars are required. It is important to understand a few things about this next part; when you take a one-star mission from a Gad's Express, whenever you complete it, the delivery is tallied to the Gad's Express that you TOOK IT FROM. Each Gad's Express has a separate tally, and a separate variety of starred missions you can take; therefore, if you do deliveries originating from Port Searis often, you can have 4-star missions there, but if you did not do one in Noapeace at all, you could only do 1-star missions there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2e. Cards XCRDX =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Cards are a secondary form of battling in Lunar: Dragon Song. While you can use them for a variety of different effects, you don't necessarily have to actually use them. Each card represents a different monster, and can be gotten by defeating monsters in Combat Mode. Where do I get Cards? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- There is only one way in the entire game to get a card: You must go into a dungeon, switch into Combat (item-gathering) Mode, and fight monsters. Eventually, if your Luck status is good enough, a monster will drop a Card that represents it's features and allows you to use it. How do I use Cards? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Cards can either be used while traveling in a dungeon or town, or they can be used in battle. Some cards can be used in both battle and your travels, while others can only be used during either a battle or travel. For a more complete list of Cards and their effects, look up the Appendix - Cards section. If you are missing a card, look to see what monster you are missing and go and fight them, using the Gad's Express Monster Location list. Additionally, some cards cannot be used, and are considered Monster Cards. For the most part, they are boss cards, but a few are regular monsters. In the case of these, I have tried to list all of their locations for collector purposes. What's With The P Points? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A card starts off with a maximum amount of P Points. Every time you use the card, it will lose 100 P Points off of it's total. When the number of P Points reaches 0, the card will break, and you can no longer use it. Can I Replace a Broken Card? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Yes, you can. All you have to do when a card is broken is go and find the correct monster again, and fight him in Combat Mode. Eventually, with the correct luck rating, you will regain the Card for further use. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3a. People Locations PEPLC =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The following is a list of the settlements in the game that you can deliver packages to, with the people whom you can deliver packages to sorted alphabetically. The building or area that they will be found in is right next to their name. I cannot guarantee that all of these people can actually be delivered to, but it should otherwise be useful for quick reference. NOTE: Because of a perceived lack of communication between translators, some names in the Gad's Express do not match up with the names of their actual counterparts (ie. Davida = Devida). I will try to make a note of this whenever a person's name in the Gad's Express is not their actual name by signifying it with a *. NOTE2: Any 'To Gad's Express' missions must be delivered to the Gad's Express in the signified settlement.
