DDEESSCCRRIIPPTTIIOONN
In the first three forms, copy SOURCE to DEST or
multiple SOURCE(s) to the existing DIRECTORY, while
setting permission modes and owner/group. In the 4th
form, create all components of the given DIRECTORY(ies).

Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory
       for short options too.

       ----bbaacckkuupp[=_C_O_N_T_R_O_L]
make a backup of each existing destination file

--bb like ----bbaacckkuupp but does not
       accept an argument

       --cc (ignored)

       --dd, ----ddiirreeccttoorryy
treat all arguments as directory names; create
all components of the specified directories

--DD create all leading components of DEST except
       the last, then copy
              SOURCE to DEST

       --gg, ----ggrroouupp=_G_R_O_U_P
set group ownership, instead of process'
              current group

       --mm, ----mmooddee=_M_O_D_E
set permission mode (as in chmod), instead
              of rwxr-xr-x

       --oo, ----oowwnneerr=_O_W_N_E_R
              set ownership (super-user only)

       --pp,
       ----pprreesseerrvvee--ttiimmeessttaammppss
apply access/modification times of SOURCE files
              to corresponding destination files

       --ss, ----ssttrriipp
              strip symbol tables

       --SS, ----ssuuffffiixx=_S_U_F_F_I_X
       override the usual backup suffix

       --tt,
       ----ttaarrggeett--ddiirreeccttoorryy=_D_I_R_E_C_T_O_R_Y
copy all SOURCE arguments into DIRECTORY

       --TT,
       ----nnoo--ttaarrggeett--ddiirreeccttoorryy
treat DEST as a normal file

       --vv, ----vveerrbboossee
print the name of each directory as it is created

----hheellpp display this help and exit

       ----vveerrssiioonn
              output version information and exit

The backup suffix is `~', unless set with
       ----ssuuffffiixx or SIM‐ PLE_BACKUP_SUFFIX.
The version control method may be selected via the
       ----bbaacckkuupp option or through the
       VERSION_CONTROL environment variable. Here are
       the values:

       none, off
              never make backups (even if
              ----bbaacckkuupp is given)

       numbered, t
              make numbered backups

       existing, nil
numbered if numbered backups exist, simple
              otherwise

       simple, never
              always make simple backups
