I am still unable to get the remotes to connect. Once I launch the software through HBC, the remotes and all of the buttons on the Wii become inactive. Cannot re-sync wiimotes and console.

Same problem as "nwault". Tried to install. Got a failure. Ran it again with same results. Was going to try again offline, but remote doesn't work. Went to Xr21 and remote locks @ license agreement.

Hey, i found out how to fix the remote disconnection issue. Load this installer from HBC, and your remote should be still working at this stage then use left/right to navigate to IOS236, and install it first(via network installation which requires you have wifi connected). After the reboot, you should be able to install IOS249 using your remote controller now. Hooray!

I am also having the wiimote connection issues. I went to try your fix windyhawk but I don't have an option to install IOS236.
Any help from anybody that is in the know about this sort of thing would be much appreciated

Use the IOS236 Installer to install IOS236 first. After that you'll be able to select that IOS in the cIOS installer. The reason your Wiimotes disconnect is because you're choosing IOS249, which is a stub IOS (and those contain no usable code).

Okay so I have ios236 installed, but when I try to select it it doesnt show up, and instead it goes from 249 to 222....

I had this exact same problem-
You have to install IOS236 first-
Not there or not working?-
You need the IOS236 patch installer-
http://sites.google.com/site /completesg/cios/waninkoko-
Network didn't work for me so I downloaded the wad and it worked-
Then I came back to this and installed IOS236-
Then I installed IOS249-
Hope it helps!!!!!

------------------------------REAL SOLUTION----------------
I've had the same problem with disconnected remotes... make sure to have the wad files (via NUS downloader: iOS236 (IOS36-64-v3351.wad) and iOS249 (via NUS downloader: IOS38-64-v3867.wad) in the root of the SD-card.
When installing iOS249, first bypass the trucha bug (https://sites.google.com/site/completes g/hacking-guide/trucha) then use this download to first install >c!!< IOS236 use the right and left to select 236. follow instructions. the wii will restart, perform the same actions with this downloaded software, but choose 249 or higher and now your remote will be and stay connected...
good luck!!!

Coming into Wii hacking a bit late in the game here. I'm following http://lifehacker.com/5518518/how-to-bac k-up-and-play-your-wii-games-from-an-ext ernal-hard-drive article to back up and play from a hard drive.
I've launched the cIOS installer and switched to ISO36, it was visible on the first try. With the WAD file in SD root it appeared to be going fine. Last line on screen said "Finishing Installations, please wait... OK!", but up above that it says "Installing Custom IOS, please wait ..." followed by ">>Install ERROR (ret=-2011)". Looks like everything works but the custom IOS, which is the whole point here, right? I don't know if the last OK means I'm good to go or not.
Thinking I may have done something wrong, after reading the above solutions, I tried again with ISO249 but the remote froze up. Of course, I don't see ISO236, haven't run the installer and don't think I want to right now.
Any thoughts on my predicament?
